The founder of Fortifeye Vitamins, Dr. Michael Lange is an OD graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry who serves as the president, CEO, and founder of Lange Eye Care and Associates. Outside of his work as an optometrist, Dr. Michael Lange participates in a wide range of extreme sports, and after years of satisfying his adrenaline addiction via motocross racing, he has recently taken up GT and Formula car racing.

In the United States, there are four prominent types of auto racing. These include Formula One, IndyCar, NASCAR, and FIA.

The FIA World Endurance Championship is the only competition in which spectators can see differing classes of race cars compete on the same track. The FIA event also sets itself apart from other US events in that the races last from six to 24 hours, with driver teams of two or more people switching off in 40-minute shifts. Cars in the FIA championship are often manned by former Formula One drivers, but the competition is also open to certain celebrity amateur drivers. The FIA is also the group responsible for holding the renowned Le Mans races, the world’s oldest endurance competition.

Motocross Provides Full-Body Workout

Dr. Michael Lange is a Florida-based optometrist who founded his own practice and successfully branched out to numerous locations across the state. A health-and-fitness enthusiast, Michael Lange, OD, enjoys motocross as a form of exercise, citing its full-body workout capabilities.

Though not considered a stand-alone exercise routine, riding a motorized bike does have several potential health and fitness benefits. Most notably, riding a dirt bike increases your heart rate at a similar level to jogging. The more challenging the ride, the harder your heart has to work to keep up. A ride incorporating hills, high jumps, and other obstacles can push your heart rate to 150 beats per minute. Lengthy rides, meanwhile, can help improve your endurance, while continual movements of your feet and hands to operate the pedals and gears burns energy.

Steering a bike also requires a great deal of strength and effort, and over time, continued driving can give you more defined hamstrings and quadriceps, among other leg muscles. Riding through strong winds and cold temperatures is another way to burn calories, as your legs and arms are forced to work harder to keep the bike steady.

Blue Light is Detrimental at Night, New Research Shows

Blue Light Defense Image: bluelightdefense.com

The proprietor of The Lange Eye Institute in The Villages, Florida, Dr. Michael Lange Optometrist, provides medical, optical , and nutritional eye care. An entrepreneur, Dr. Michael Lange, OD, started a company called Blue Light Defense and Blue Light Shield that pioneered the development of blue light filtering lenses.

Research has shown that night lighting throws the body’s circadian rhythm (natural biological clock) off pace. Because of this, sleeping becomes more difficult and in worse cases, these lights may increase the risk of obesity, diabetes, cancer, and even heart disease.

A study by Harvard researchers placed 10 participants on a schedule that altered their circadian rhythms. Results showed that their blood sugar levels rose gradually as their levels of leptin, the hormone responsible for that “full” feeling after eating, reduced.

Not all colors of light, however, have similar harmful effects. New evidence shows that blue wavelengths emitted by numerous electronic screens and energy efficient light bulbs may be more harmful at night. Another study by Harvard researchers compared the effects of exposure to 6.5 hours of blue light and green light at night. Results showed that blue light suppressed the secretion of melatonin, a hormone that promotes the circadian rhythm, for twice as long. Low levels of melatonin have been linked to cancer.

People who work the night shift can opt to use red lights for night lights as these have the least power to shift circadian rhythms or suppress melatonin secretion. They can also wear blue light-blocking glasses or install applications that filter blue wavelengths at night. Learn more at www.bluelightdefense.com

Researchers from the American Optometric Association report that age-related macular degeneration (AMD) causes blindness in more Western individuals over the age of 55 than any other eye disease. Furthermore, the organization’s experts predict that AMD-related blindness will triple within the next 12 years. Consequently, there is no better time to begin protecting your eyes than right now.

Many individuals lack a nutritional balance that promotes optimal eye health.
