In the United States, there are four prominent types of auto racing. These include Formula One, IndyCar, NASCAR, and FIA.
The FIA World Endurance Championship is the only competition in which spectators can see differing classes of race cars compete on the same track. The FIA event also sets itself apart from other US events in that the races last from six to 24 hours, with driver teams of two or more people switching off in 40-minute shifts. Cars in the FIA championship are often manned by former Formula One drivers, but the competition is also open to certain celebrity amateur drivers. The FIA is also the group responsible for holding the renowned Le Mans races, the world’s oldest endurance competition.
